How to Create a Healthy Discipleship Pathway in Your Church

By Daphne Quek, Eternal Life Assembly

Our panel shared on the significance of discipleship in churches at this present age.

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, Chinese ministers and leaders of the Assemblies of God gathered for the year’s first Chinese 2TIP. The panel sharing revolved around the significance of discipleship in our churches today, especially in light of MM33 – the vision of the World Assemblies of God to witness Kingdom expansion through advanced evangelism, discipleship, and church planting.

Coming before the Lord in worship

Rev David Lim opens the session with an overview of six pillars that should govern our discipleship: The gospel as the motivation of discipleship, Christ as the goal of discipleship, the Bible as the content of discipleship, the Holy Spirit as the Empowerer of discipleship, the church as the environment for discipleship to take place and mission as the embodiment of discipleship.

Yet, how do we practically break through the challenges of discipleship?

Rev Christina Onn shares that to overcome the challenges of discipleship, we must first change how we disciple – awaken our members’ spiritual hunger. To do so, we need first to understand the vision God gave the church and communicate this to our members. In addition, we must understand the direction of new discipleship before its implementation, be clear of its purpose or philosophy, and be both convicted and committed to it for the long term.

Ps Chai Tze Joon rounds off the session by sharing where evangelism – specifically outreach – finds its place in our discipleship. He shares that intentional discipleship and fostering of church culture will naturally lead to outreach.

As we step into this new year and continue in our movement to advance the gospel globally, we pray that as we humbly seek the Lord to lead us in building healthy discipleship in our churches, we will witness empowered individuals grow to be the salt and light of this generation.

ACTS College
