2024 Global Concert of Prayer: The Mandate of Jesus for His Church

By Sis Chai Moon Leong, New Horizon Church

May His Mandate always remain our Mission!

In a world of shifting priorities, the Year 2024 Global Concert of Prayer was a powerful
call to return to the heart of Jesus, focusing on the Mandate He left for His church. This
global event brought together believers from across the world, emphasizing the
importance of aligning with Jesus’ mission and renewing our commitment to making
disciples of all nations. Over 50 hours of uninterrupted prayer, the central theme echoed
through the gathering: “May His Mandate always remain our Mission!”

From September 16 to 18, churches under the Assemblies of God banner united in
continuous prayer with a singular focus: the expansion of the body of Christ worldwide,
as outlined in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). This year’s prayer concert,
dubbed “MM33” (referring to the goal of fulfilling the Great Commission by 2033),
focused strongly on key areas: the health of global churches, discipleship, and raising
up the next generation of believers.

Together in one voice worshiping

The Mandate of Jesus
Rev Dominic Yeo, the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and
General Superintendent of Singapore Assemblies of God, led the Singapore AG prayer
segment on September 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. He began by exhorting everyone to
worship and seek the Lord Jesus. The Mandate of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 28,
was at the heart of his message: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching
them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).

This passage provided the framework for the 50-hour prayer marathon, reminding
believers that the mission of the church remains unchanged. The concert aimed to see
the church fully aligns with this commission, seeking to impact the nations and bring the
Kingdom of God to every corner of the earth.

Throughout the event, a consistent message was clear: the church must return to Jesus’
heart. This call to refocus on His mission served as a reminder to avoid distractions and
prioritize what truly matters—the salvation of souls and the expansion of His Kingdom.

Pressing in with tenacity

Focus Areas of Prayer
The concert began with a powerful time of praise and worship, led by vibrant musicians,
preparing the hearts of participants for prayer. Rev. Mark guided the prayer sessions,
which were divided into several key focus areas, each corresponding to vital aspects of
fulfilling the Great Commission:

● Healthy Churches
A primary focus of the prayers was the need for healthy churches. Believers
united their voices, asking God to strengthen local congregations worldwide.
Healthy churches form the foundation for discipleship, leadership development,
and spiritual growth, making them essential to the global church’s expansion.

● Discipleship
Another key theme was discipleship. Participants prayed for a renewed
commitment to teaching and training believers in the ways of Christ. Discipleship
isn’t just about increasing church numbers; it’s about transforming lives and
equipping individuals to live out their faith daily. The concert emphasized the
importance of creating disciples who will, in turn, disciple others, forming a
multiplying impact across generations.

● NextGeneration
The next generation was also a critical focus. With younger generations facing
unique challenges, there was a heartfelt plea for God to raise up new leaders
and empower young people to take ownership of their faith. Prayers were lifted
for wisdom in mentoring and discipling these future leaders, ensuring the
church’s continued growth and vitality for years to come.

Agreeing in spirit and heart

Singapore Assemblies of God Leads the Way
During the second segment, prayers were rooted in Matthew 9:38: “Ask the Lord of the
harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:38, NIV).
Participants formed small groups and passionately prayed for the churches in
Singapore and their role in the global mission. Assemblies of God Singapore,
represented by various pastors and leaders, led intercessions for the expansion of
churches within Singapore. They prayed for an open heaven, spiritual revival, and a
great harvest, asking God to send more laborers into the harvest to reach every
generation and every new town in the country.

Rev Lindsey led prayers specifically for church planting, focusing on the expansion of
churches and reaching new towns and generations. Her faith-filled prayers called for a
revival to sweep through the island nation, impacting every demographic. She also
prayed for a gathering of the harvest and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, resulting in
unprecedented church growth.

The prayers extended beyond Singapore’s borders, with a strong emphasis on the
global mission. There was a specific focus on establishing churches that could reach
people of all languages and backgrounds. Citing Revelation 5, which depicts every tribe
and tongue worshiping before God’s throne, participants prayed for missionaries around
the world to be strengthened and equipped for the work despite challenging
circumstances.

Rev Bernadette led prayers for awakening and revival. Her prayers centered on the
movement of the Holy Spirit with signs and wonders and a call for believers to pursue
righteousness and seek God’s glory. She urged attendees to seek a fresh outpouring of
the Holy Spirit, praying for an awakening that would ripple from Singapore to nations
worldwide.

Praying in unity with the global church

Uniting Around the Mission
The overarching goal of the Year 2024 Global Concert of Prayer was clear: to unite the
global church around the mandate of Jesus. With 42% of the world still unreached by
the Gospel, the need for concerted prayer and action is greater than ever. This prayer
concert served as a rallying cry for the global church to remain mission-focused and
continually seek the expansion of the Kingdom of God.

As the 50 hours of prayer came to a close in Singapore before being handed over to
South Korea, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper alignment
with the heart of Jesus. The 2024 Global Concert of Prayer was not just an event but a
powerful reminder that the mission of the church is as urgent as ever, and the body of
Christ must remain united in pursuing the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
