Assemblies of God Annual General Meeting 2023: Revving-Up for His Mission
By Ps Navin Ong, Centre of New Life
On the morning of May 25, 2023, AG ministers gathered at Trinity@Paya Lebar for the Assemblies of God Annual General Meeting.
Embracing the Missional Mandate
Praise and worship, led by Rev Jireh Ang with Rev Daphne Lau and Bro Marcus Lee, initiated the gathering, igniting the atmosphere with a sense of joy and anticipation, as we declared together, ‘Today is the Day’, followed by ‘Holy Forever’, culminating in declaring with all heavens, the glory of the risen Lord. Then framing the meeting with a missional thrust, Rev Dominic Yeo, invited Missions Head, Rev Lindsey Lui to update on the inaugural Sender’s Summit at Lake Geneva, to which she reported representatives of over 70 nations had joined hearts and vision for a new season of collaboration, to see the ‘unfinished task complete’.
Shifting the missional thrust into high-gear, Rev Dominic lay before us the global vision of World AG to see 1 million churches established by 2033 – MM33. Describing it as the greatest concerted kingdom expansion, it would usher-in greater collaboration among churches worldwide, and locally, birth a fresh church-planting movement, in order to reach more people with the Gospel. He delineated seven key thrusts that undergird the MM33 vision: a church-planting movement both within and without Singapore, a prayer movement that releases revival, a great evangelistic movement, a sustained discipleship movement, healthy churches, raising up the next generation and a return to signs and wonders with a strong equipping and Spirit-baptism emphasis.
Then through a devotion on Matthew 14:15-21, Rev Dominic emphasized that “size doesn’t matter”, exhorting that challenges are God’s means of giving churches a breakthrough, to build our faith and His check-up for the church. The sharing ended in a powerful moment of prayer, where the sanctuary was quickly filled with sound of tongues, as ministers lay their hands on one another, praying prophetically over one another.
The Credential Ceremony which followed, saw 19 exhorters, 8 licensed ministers, and 4 ordained ministers credentialed with the AG much to the joyful cheers and applause of all present.
Structuring and Gearing-up for Missional Growth
After a break, Rev Tan Hock Cheng convened the business meeting with three election items on the agenda: the election of the Assistant General Superintendent, the General Secretary, and the election of two Executive Committee members, all for three-year terms.
Rev Simon Ang was re-elected as the Assistant General Superintendent.
Rev Jason Tan was elected as the General Secretary.
Rev Mark Poh and Rev Dr Chia Beng Hock, were elected as Executive Committee Members.
The morning concluded with several important equipping initiatives and platforms for ministers, leaders and churches. Overseas, “Shine” the 9th World Assemblies of God Congress is happening from October 12-14 in Madrid, Spain, while in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Ministers Institute Retreat is happening from November 20-23. Also in Malaysia, in Klang, “Now” Children, Youth, Campus and Young Adult Leaders Conference July 5-7 while the Second Chinese International Pastors Conference takes place in Hong Kong from July 3 -5.
