Forging Ahead in Our Gospel Mandate and Ministry

Assemblies of God of Singapore’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and credential holders receiving their recognition in our Annual General Meeting.

On the morning of May 26, 2022, credential holders and families of ministers of the Assemblies of God Singapore gathered both onsite at Trinity@Paya Lebar, as well as online for 2TiP equipping and the Assemblies of God AGM.

The Gospel Minister and Ministry

Reading Psalm 47, Rev Eileen Leong, together with Rev Daphne Lau and Rev Jireh Ang, led us in praise and worship, as we sang to the king with a thousand hallelujahs. Then former Grace AG senior pastor, Rev Calvin Lee, took to the stage with a timely word entitled “The Minister and the Ministry”, introducing three paradoxes, to which all ministers need to focus on and attend.

Starting with Colossians 3 and introducing the first paradox – ‘it is about me and yet not about me’, Rev Calvin highlighted the necessity to attend to our inner life. Encouraging us to put to death the sinful nature as well as to discipline ourselves, he cautioned that our response to the Holy Spirit determines the outcome of the renewal process.

Next, through Proverbs 22:29 and 2 Corinthians 3:5-6, he shared the second paradox – “it is my church and yet not my church”. Here he taught us the importance for Gospel ministers to cultivate ‘surrender’ as well as the skills necessary for continuous growth.

Finally, with paradox three – “it is my battle and yet not my battle”, through the example of King Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:15), Rev Calvin elucidated the importance of posture and perseverance in ministry for every minister. He encouraged younger ministers are to lay strong foundations for their ministry, and urged older ministers that it is never too late to start.

After a brief break, Rev Tan Hock Cheng convened the AGM at 11:20am, calling it to order under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act.

At the meeting the financial statements were accepted, with Rev Dr Chia Beng Hock giving details on the income statement as well as thanking churches who have contributed to the welfare fund for ministers.

Our EXCO was given a strong mandate to continue to lead AG churches in Singapore. Rev Dominic Yeo was re-elected General Superintendent, Rev Bernadette Fan was elected as the General Treasurer.

Rev Lindsey Lui and Rev Terence Ong were re-elected as Committee Members.

Rev Dr Chia Beng Hock was elected as a Committee Member for one-year term.

Rev Simon Ang, Rev Tan Hock Cheng and Rev Jason Tan remain as Assistant General Superintendent, General Secretary and Committee Member respectively.

It was also announced that Rev Dominic Yeo would also be chairing the Asia-Pacific Assemblies of God Fellowship and building greater collaboration in the region.

The Credential Ceremony which followed, saw Rev Dr Simon Chan honored with a lifetime membership to the general council of the Assemblies of God Singapore, having served faithfully with over 53 years of fruitful and impactful ministry through his pastoring, writing, and teaching. The ceremony rose to a high-point with the celebration of 15 exhorters, five licensed ministers, one associate licensed minister and 11 ordained ministers and wrapped up with five associate corporate members officially joining the AG family.

The morning concluded with a call to fan the “Fires of Revival” by participating in Global Concert of Prayer this June, the upcoming 6^th World Missions Congress in September and WAG Congress in Spain in 2023. Hence, we were reminded once again of the urgency for Togetherness, Training and Transformation as we see that Day of the Lord approaching.
