On December 3, 2022, Calvary Assembly had the privilege of collaborating with the Siglap East Residents’ Committee and the Racial and Religious Harmony Circle (formerly known as “Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle”) to hold a Christmas carnival for the Bedok South community. Held at the newly built Siglap Community Club, more than 500 residents soaked in the festive atmosphere in the indoor basketball court. The residents played Christmas-themed games at 10 different stations, ate their fill of carnival snacks at five food stops and took memorable photos at the photo booth. Some of them were even game enough to have their faces painted!
As the sun began to set, residents joined in the evening concert where they were treated to an energetic dance performance, melodious music by a trombone quartet and a hearty sing-along with an acapella choir. Our Guest-of-Honour Dr Maliki Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, talked about how it is a privilege to be able to celebrate with the different faiths in Singapore. Our Senior Pastor, Ps Timothy Eu, was also able to share what Christmas means to us as Christians. The concert reached a high during the blessing draw as the residents cheered on their neighbors who won a prize.
When we reflect on the success of the event, we also remember that “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain.” (Psalm 127:1, ESV) Without a doubt, this carnival was possible because of God. God’s favor paved the way for us to have an ongoing partnership with the Residents’ Committee. God’s movement in our church touched the Calvarites to band together and serve in any areas they could, whether it was to handmake props and decorations, transport the heavy logistics, man the booths or be a befriender. And God’s love drew in the residents to attend the carnival so that they could experience the joy of Christmas.
We are excited about God’s plans for our community and look forward to Calvary Assembly being a vessel for His works. Just as God has opened the doors for us through this Christmas carnival, we declare that God will continue to grant us inroads into our community so that many will hear and receive the true message of Christmas!
