Kingdom Expansion through a Movement of Evangelism: The Exponential Effect

By Rev Dominic Yeo

One of the most remarkable miracles in Scripture is the feeding of the five thousand. It is, in fact, the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels (apart from the resurrection of Christ). Faced with an impossible situation, the disciples saw only scarcity. Five loaves. Two fish. Thousands of hungry people. Their conclusion was simple: “Send the crowds away.”

But Jesus turned to His disciples and said, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” (Matthew 14:16)

It is not so different today. Our world now has more than 8.3 billion people. According to Pew Research Center, only about 2.3 billion identify as Christians, leaving more than 70% of humanity who still need to know Jesus Christ. Like the disciples, we can easily become overwhelmed by the size of the crowd and the enormity of the task.

Yet Jesus still says to His Church today, “You give them something to eat.”

Will you give them something to eat, or send them to another church or another evangelistic event?

Kingdom expansion has always been God’s work, but He chooses to accomplish it through ordinary people who are willing to obey. This is the exponential effect of the Gospel.

The Exponential Effect Begins with YOU

When we think of evangelism, we often picture stadium crusades, well-known evangelists, or gifted preachers. I know many of them personally, and I thank God for them. The Church needs evangelists who proclaim Christ boldly to the nations.

But evangelism was never intended to belong only to a few. It belongs to every believer, every disciple, every child of God. We are all called to share the Gospel.

You have access to people that I will never meet. Your workplace, your classroom, your neighborhood, your family, your circle of friends – they are your mission field. Not everyone will walk through the doors of a church, but many will walk through the doors of your life.

Long before they hear a sermon, they will watch your life. They will see your joy in difficult seasons, your peace in uncertainty, your integrity in business, your kindness toward others, and your faith when life becomes difficult. Your personal witness often speaks long before your words do.

Evangelism flourishes through proximity, authenticity, and relationship. God has intentionally placed each of us where we are so that we might become His witnesses. The exponential effect begins when you and I simply live and share the Gospel where God has planted us.

The Exponential Effect Happens in Your Hands

“Taking the five loaves and the two fish… Jesus gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.” (Matthew 14:19)

Many times, we imagine that Jesus alone worked the miracle of producing bread and fish and the disciples playing the game of fetch, running back and forth between Jesus and the hungry crowd.

But perhaps Jesus wasn’t frantically breaking bread all day and night. And perhaps the disciples were not running back and forth endlessly.

I believe Jesus broke the bread and fish and gave the disciples the broken bread and fish, and that the disciples, with the broken bread and fish in their hands, broke more bread as they got to each group. Every time they broke another piece, there was still enough. The multiplication happened through their hands.

God’s provision always begins with Him, but He chooses human hands to distribute His blessing. The miracle was never independent of Jesus, yet neither did He bypass His disciples.

The same is true today.

God has already placed something in your hands. It may not seem like much. But neither did five loaves and two fish.

What do you have in your hands?

God has placed bread and fish in your hands. Perhaps it is your testimony of His divine provision. Perhaps it is your home, your business, your influence, your resources, your gifts, or simply your willingness to care for someone who is hurting.

Will you allow what is in your hands to be broken further for His glory?

The Exponential Effect Ends Beyond Ourselves

“They all ate and were satisfied.” (Matthew 14:20)

The miracle did not end with the disciples. The goal was never simply to bless the twelve. It was to satisfy thousands.

Every hungry soul fed was satisfied that day.

Today, the world still sees billions who have yet to hear the Gospel.

Jesus still looks at His Church and says, “You give them something to eat.”

One believer reaches one family.

One family reaches a neighborhood.

One healthy church plants another healthy church.

Communities are transformed.

Nations are reached with the Gospel.

This is the exponential effect of the Kingdom.

Beyond adding churches. It is about multiplying disciples who make disciples, churches that plant churches, and nations that become catalysts for Kingdom expansion. This is the heartbeat of MM33 as we trust God for one million healthy, multiplying churches by 2033.

The exponential effect does not begin with extraordinary people. It begins with ordinary disciples who are willing to place what is in their hands into the hands of Jesus.

Will you be willing to place what is in your hands into the hands of Jesus, and trust Him to multiply it for His glory?
