Induction of Life Membership – Rev Dr Simon Chan

This year, Assemblies of God (AG) Singapore is proud to announce that Rev Dr Simon Chan joins our cohort of Life Members.

AG, as an institution, recognize and honor a stalwart in ministry who is our credential holder for the past 53 years. Dr Simon received his:

Exhorter in 1969

Licensed in 1970 and

Was Ordained in 1982

Dr Simon came to know the Lord Jesus Christ was under the ministry of Rev Pang Ek Kwan in 1966 at Bethel Assembly. With the encouragement of the late Rev Fred Seaward, he went to Bible Institute of Malaya (now Bible College of Malaysia) and later to Far East Advanced School of Theology (now Asia Pacific Theological Seminary).

Upon his return to Singapore, he taught at Bible Institute of Singapore (now ACTS College). He went on to pursue a PhD with the University of Cambridge and upon returning, he returned to serve at BIS for another three years before joining the faculty of Trinity Theological College (TTC) in 1986. Rev Dr Simon Chan retired from TTC in 2018.

During his distinguished tenure, Dr Simon published a number of books and journal articles on theology, spirituality, liturgy and Pentecostalism. Currently he is the editor of Asia Journal of Theology, a publication of the Association of Theological Education of South East Asia. At the same time, he serves in ministry as an honorary pastor of New Horizon Church.

Fondly known as a caring lecturer with his students whilst teaching at BIS and TTC, he too, was also known to have taken time with his students outside of classes to go on leisure trips, like fishing, so as to know them better and counsel them in the areas of theological pursuit and pastoral ministry. For the latter, he was known to have visited and spent time with his ex-students who were ill and at the same time, reached out to their families.

Indeed, we are very pleased to welcome a humble minister with no airs as a Life Member.
