Blessed Grace Social Services’ 10th Anniversary Dinner

By Samantha Lee, Blessed Grace Church

On October 13, 2024, we celebrated 10 years of God’s faithfulness and providence as we serve the needs of the community.

This year marks the 10th year since the inauguration of Blessed Grace Social Services Limited. Looking back, we are filled with immense gratitude. Year after year, God’s faithfulness and providence brought BGSS from strength to strength as we grew and expanded our services to serve the needs of the community whenever they arose.

Guest-of-Honor, Dr Tan See Leng

We commemorated our milestone through a celebratory anniversary dinner. We were honored to have Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, join us for this joyous occasion. Our beneficiaries prepared and presented song and dance performances. They also shared testimonies about how their lives have been turned around and the restoration of relationships all because of God’s grace.

A nostalgic performance

We also took the opportunity during the anniversary dinner to show our appreciation to our donors who had given generously to support the causes of BGSS, and to our long-service volunteers who had faithfully and unwaveringly served the many beneficiaries of BGSS.

Sharing the goodness of God

As Minister Tan alluded to in his speech, the origins of BGSS were humble. We started off as a small support group of eight for problem gamblers, like a small mustard seed. As it stands today, BGSS’ gambling addiction support group has a weekly average of 80 attendees. We have also expanded to serve not just problem gamblers, but the elderly, ex-offenders, narcotic addicts, and the migrant domestic workers in Singapore. Metaphorically, BGSS which was once a small mustard seed has grown into a large, strong, and dependable tree which can now provide refuge, shelter, and comfort for anyone who needs it.

An energetic show

Even as we celebrate our 10th anniversary milestone, we recognise that this is merely the beginning. Like Minister Tan mentioned, the mustard seed still requires constant care, nurturing, and support to grow even more, so that we can effectively expand and stretch our reach to even more people who are in need. BGSS will continuously be on the lookout to set up new services to better serve the community.

Singing for the audience

It has been a privilege for us to be able to partner with God to carry out His works to restore, uplift, and love those who are vulnerable, marginalized, and forgotten. We can only love because God first loved us. Through serving and giving, BGSS witnessed and experienced God’s unfailing love, faithfulness, and His amazing grace throughout these 10 years. With confidence, we can testify “Thus far has the Lord helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12), and we will proclaim this again for the many 10 more years down the road.
