Emmanuel AG Family Camp: More Than a Retreat — A Strategic Opportunity for Missions

Emmanuel Assembly of God’s Family Camp refreshed mission partners and deepened global missions engagement through authentic relationships and MM33 strategic alignment.

Church camps are often viewed as a time for fellowship, alignment, and spiritual refreshment. But they can also function as a strategic platform to deepen missions engagement and strengthen care for those serving on the front lines. At Emmanuel Assembly of God’s recent Family Camp, mission partners were intentionally invited not to minister, but to rest, worship, and be refreshed in God’s presence. The clear intent was to create space for renewal, refreshment and spiritual strengthening. Post-camp feedback from missionaries affirmed the value of this approach.

During one of the dinners, mission partners also had the opportunity to meet one another and, for the first time, discover the different nations and fields they were serving in. These moments were simple yet meaningful—reminding the church that missions are not distant or abstract, but deeply relational and lived out in real places with real people. Many care cells also had the opportunity to host mission partners, bringing a greater sense of proximity and allowing relationships to deepen beyond the camp setting.

Invited missions partners shared that the camp came at a crucial point in their ministry journey. Through the preaching, worship, fellowship, and prayer, they experienced renewed strength, passion, and a fresh encouragement in their calling. They were also encouraged by the faith, hunger, and responsiveness of the younger generation, as well as the warmth and hospitality of the church family. Maricel shared that the camp was a timely reminder of restoration and renewal. Through the messages, worship, and fellowship, she sensed God renewing her passion and reaffirming His purpose and calling in her life. Ps Sonny described the camp as a time of rekindling and renewal. He was encouraged by what God is doing in Emmanuel, felt more connected to the church family, and appreciated the opportunity to rest together with his wife. Dahlia was encouraged by Ps Yang’s messages and inspired by the hunger and responsiveness of the younger generation. She also valued the opportunity to reconnect with members and appreciated the prayers extended to her ministry. R&J found the camp especially meaningful, having not attended a church camp for many years. They were encouraged by Emmanuel’s missional culture and the opportunity to participate without ministry and leadership responsibilities. They expressed appreciation for the church’s generosity and hospitality, which made the camp a refreshing and memorable experience.

One key moment for the church, reflecting the heartbeat of MM33 to mobilize every believer for God’s mission, came when a group of members sensed a deeper alignment with the heart of what mission partners were doing on the field. They stepped beyond the scheduled program to intentionally connect with them, organizing an informal lunch to understand the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) framework used in evangelistic and disciple-making contexts. Following the camp, some began applying this framework within their own ministry fields, using it as a simple evangelistic tool to share Scripture with pre-believing friends and loved ones in a relational way.

More significantly, these moments cannot be replicated through newsletters or pulpit updates during missions’ emphasis months. Members came to know mission partners personally—not just their work, but their stories, convictions, and daily realities. Conversations shifted missions from information to relationship, creating a discipleship space that reshaped how members engage in God’s global mission. As this shift takes place, missions become tangible within the life of the local church. In line with MM33, both local and global missions are embraced as a shared calling—lived out through relationship, obedience, and participation in God’s heart for the nations.
